Hugs (the female) and Kisses (the male) were abandoned after a Crest Hill pet salon, Symply Unique, closed its doors for good in December. The building's landlord dialed the Humane Society of Plainfield offering them the equipment left behind, not knowing that the cats were left there. .... | |

| | | Entryways Provide Invitation To Home | | Posted Tuesday, January 02, 2007 2:59:44 PM by Blog57 Team | | (Family Features) - Does your home's front entrance cause people to take notice or drive on by? Is it inviting or just another entrance? Much like a manicured lawn and well-maintained exterior add curb appeal to a home, so does the front entrance."Ten years ago, homeowners personalized their entry by incorporating decorative glass," says Jeff Kibler of Peachtree Doors and Windows. "Today, homeowners desire more dramatic entries and an entire entry system."If you're considering remodeling your front entry or building a new home, you face many decisions about a door's basic material and performance, complementary windows, accessories and security.Basic MaterialsEntry doors are primarily constructed of steel, fiberglass or wood. The material that is right for your home will depend on cost, desired look and, to a limited degree, geography.Steel is the most economical and popular material and is also sturdy, secure and can be painted to match a home.... | |

| | | From 90-year-old bungalow to new home in Elgin | | Posted Monday, November 13, 2006 3:23:30 AM by Blog57 Team | | Henry and Amy Bauer reside on the Northwest Side of Chicago in a 90-year-old bungalow -- the home where Henry grew up. They are buying a new town house -- at West Point Gardens, a development in Elgin. "We've been very happy with our home and neighborhood," Amy said. Nevertheless, they wanted a new home without exterior maintenance chores. "We really did our homework. We visited every new and resale townhome from Route 45 west," she said with a laugh. "With a dog and a three-year-old boy [Dallas], we definitely wanted a backyard with a privacy fence," she said. "We also are accustomed to garages in the rear of the homes. We were looking for a neighborhood where we could feel the same sense of community we are accustomed to. When we visited West Point Gardens, it became an easy decision." The Bauers chose the Dearborn design, which features a covered porch.... | |

| | | With opener at Alumni Hall, Stags prove you can go home again | | Posted Friday, November 10, 2006 3:12:20 AM by Blog57 Team | | After 42 seasons and countless memories, Alumni Hall supposedly closed its doors to Fairfield men's basketball on Feb. 25, 2001. The Stags were headed to the Arena at Harbor Yard in Bridgeport, never to return. Or so they thought. Stags basketball returns to Alumni Hall on Friday for the first game of the Ed Cooley regime, and the anticipation has seldom been higher. The school posted a news release on its Web site Wednesday announcing that the game against American is a sellout — several hundred freebies went to students — marking the return of the Red Sea in the 2,479-seat bandbox. "It's unbelievable," senior forward Marty O'Sullivan said. "There's kids asking now for tickets, and you can't get them. There is a big buzz. The students have been looking forward to having a game on campus for a long time." Cooley did his part, meeting with various student groups this week to share his vision for the program.... | |

| | | Antigua's Small Resorts Open Doors to Another World | | Posted Saturday, October 28, 2006 2:20:33 PM by Blog57 Team | | The small wooden cottage atop a steep hill has no air conditioning, but a soft breeze through louvered windows flutters the sheer white curtains at my balcony door. The trade winds that once carried tall ships from around the world to Antigua today carry to my room the smell of tropical flowers. Andrew Michelin, whose family came from Europe to the Caribbean several generations ago, says he planned every detail of his small resort so that visitors would have a true Caribbean experience. The roof of each cottage, for example, is made of galvanized metal, so if there happens to be a shower during your stay, you'll hear the sound of raindrops popping off a tin roof. .... | |
