| Women’s shelter plans scrapped | | Posted Tuesday, February 06, 2007 12:57:17 PM by Blog57 Team | | Bob Orr of the Warren Family Mission said so far the mission has not received any word of those plans and has had no contact with Abigails House board. A woman who answered the phone at Pathways said she was aware of the donation from Abigails but had no details on it. Before Fridays announcement, some volunteers and residents who have donated to the project and who were aware of the agencys moves to several locations during the past three years had raised questions on how the money was spent and whether the home would open. They moved and I lost track of them. I have no idea where they are, said Betsey Outhwaite, a member of Grace United Methodist Church, which did a project for Abigails Home in 2005. Churches and families throughout the county have donated thousands of dollars, clothing and personal hygiene items for residents who never lived in the facility.... | |

| | | Innovative home plans in pipeline | | Posted Sunday, November 19, 2006 12:58:50 PM by Blog57 Team | | Uttlesford District Council is proposing to transform redundant garages in Manor Road into short-term accommodation and to open up vacant units at the Mead Court sheltered housing scheme to younger tenants. Both plans are at the preliminary stage. Rod Chamberlain, executive manager for housing services, was keen to stress that the Manor Road scheme, which would see the garages replaced by a supervised, purpose-built facility with four to eight rooms, was not an old-fashioned hostel. "I certainly don't like the word hostel. I would like to think that people could come into Manor Road and not realise it was a special facility, " he said. "I wouldn't like it to have a reputation for sticking out like a sore thumb. Hopefully, the people who are there would completely integrate." Mr Chamberlain said that the garages were dilapidated and many were empty, creating an eyesore.... | |

| | | Tyson: Scrutinize home replacement cost definitions they vary | | Posted Monday, November 13, 2006 11:14:39 AM by Blog57 Team | | Q: I have been getting insurance quotes for our new home and have been getting wildly different estimates for replacement cost. The house, which is about 100 years old, has about 2,800 square feet, typical moldings, average floors, kitchen, baths, etc. Travelers estimates a replacement cost around $600,000 (about $200 per square foot). Liberty Mutual comes in at $425,000 (about $150 per square foot). I want to be fully covered, of course, but not overpay for coverage I don't need. What is a realistic replacement cost per square foot for a house like this? A: You should ask each insurance company to provide you with its definition of, and limitations on, guaranteed replacement-cost coverage. Such coverage guarantees that the insurer will pay to have your home rebuilt in a total loss, even if the construction cost exceeds the policy's dwelling coverage.... | |

The room being shut is a 10,000-square-foot space at 30 Broad Street in downtown Manhattan that the Big Board opened six years ago, at the height of the technology-stock bubble. It's currently home to 33 floor brokerages and Bear Wagner Specialists LLC, a unit of Bear Stearns Cos. They'll be relocated, along with trading of 503 stocks, including Citigroup Inc., Xerox Corp. and NYSE Group Inc., the exchange's parent company. The decision reflects the NYSE's shift to more computer- based stock trading after 214 years dominated by face-to-face haggling. This month, the Big Board began lifting some restrictions on electronic transactions as part of its so-called Hybrid Market.... | |
