| Boat Sinks In Portage Canal | | Posted Tuesday, January 23, 2007 2:59:55 PM by Blog57 Team | | Coast Guard crews and contractors from the Copper Country removed a commercial fishing boat from the Portage Canal Thursday. The vessel sank sometime last week. Officials say it sank after tiny rust holes filled with water. The boat belonged to a member of the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community. After cutting through four inches of ice, divers helped secure straps around the boat, and then a crane lifted it. Crews then pumped water out of the ship and cleaned up six gallons of oil that spilled in the canal. Coast Guard officials say the boat will go to a local scrap yard. The release of pollutants into the water will probably result in fines for the owner. .... | |

| | | Two late goals sinks Reserves | | Posted Wednesday, December 13, 2006 1:03:49 PM by Blog57 Team | | MALVERN Town could have and should have won this game against average opposition and actually led twice before conceding two late goals, and at the same time three West Midland Division One points. Dale Humphries, who improves with every game, was involved in the opening goal as he crossed into the visitors six-yard box where Richard Smith handled the ball allowing Ollie Endacott to blast home the resultant penalty. .... | |

| | | Yacht runs aground and sinks | | Posted Tuesday, November 14, 2006 11:19:49 AM by Blog57 Team | | A yacht ran aground on Saturday evening and its crew of five were taken aboard an armed forces search and rescue boat, the Armed Forces of Malta said yesterday. The yacht later sank under tow. The AFM said its Malta Radio service, at the rescue coordination centre at Luqa Barracks, overheard a Mayday distress call on VHF marine radio from the Maltese motor yacht, the Providence. The yacht had run aground in the dark, off Qawra Point near Ta' Fra Ben Tower, with some five family members on board. The Maritime Squadron's Melita 1 launch was dispatched to the area and police mobile squad patrol cars lit up the scene with their headlamps. Just before 7 p.m. the yacht somehow dislodged itself and the crew were instructed to use their life-rafts and don their life jackets instead of remaining on board.... | |

| | | Conflict sinks TV date for SJSU-Boise State | | Posted Wednesday, November 08, 2006 3:01:07 AM by Blog57 Team | | The biggest game in recent San Jose State football history won't be televised Saturday because of a spat between ESPN and the Western Athletic Conference. Less than a week after announcing it had picked up SJSU's game against No. 14 Boise State and requested a later start time, the network on Monday pulled the plug on the scheduled ESPN2 broadcast because of a dispute over a future WAC telecast. So, instead of under the lights on a national stage, the game will be played at 3 p.m., the original start time, only heard on radio. ``I'm disappointed,'' SJSU Athletic Director Tom Bowen said. ``I felt I did everything in my power to make sure San Jose State was a good partner in the process. We should not have lost this game.'' Bowen said the broadcast would not have provided SJSU any financial gain, but the exposure would have been significant.... | |

| | | Leguizamon sinks Bath | | Posted Sunday, November 05, 2006 3:20:21 AM by Blog57 Team | | Two late tries ended a five-match losing run for London Irish who snatched a 21-17 victory over Bath despite having three players sent to the sin bin. The first half was poor fare for a full house of 10,600 at the Recreation Ground, punctuated by penalties conceded at the rate of one every two minutes. Sadly, the only time the players stirred themselves into action was when a mass brawl broke out in the 17th minute. The blue touch paper was lit by a spear tackle by David Paice on Bath No 8 Zak Feau'nati. The Exiles' hooker was fortunate to escape with only a yellow card and was joined in the sin bin by team-mate Neal Hatley and Bath's Peter Short for their part in the fighting. Amid all the mistakes and mayhem Chris Malone had kicked three penalties for Bath and opposite number Barry Everitt two before Bath finally conjured up a try just before the break.... | |

| | | ROVERS' LATE SHOW SINKS BASEL | | Posted Saturday, November 04, 2006 1:15:09 PM by Blog57 Team | | Tugay, Francis Jeffers and Benni McCarthy ensured Blackburn Rovers' 100 percent Uefa Cup record continued in a 3-0 win over Basel at Ewood Park. Rovers had the better of proceedings on the night, but were denied on numerous occasions and often rode their luck at the back. However, their frustration ended on 75 minutes when Tugay lashed an unstoppable shot home with Jeffers' late penalty and McCarthy's close-range strike settling the contest. Rovers started the better of the sides with Basel keeper Franco Costanzo collecting Morten Gamst Pedersen's free-kick while he was also on hand to deny Shabani Nonda. However, the visitors struck back and shortly after Brad Friedel denied Mladen Petric's header the Basel striker squandered a great chance by hooking wide at the far post.... | |

| | | NO. 11 NOTRE DAME 38, NAVY 14: Quinn's hot hand sinks Navy | | Posted Sunday, October 29, 2006 11:08:36 PM by Blog57 Team | | Brady Quinn enjoyed an afternoon that would have satisfied almost every quarterback in the nation, especially one with a shot at winning the Heisman Trophy. Quinn accounted for four touchdowns and No. 11 Notre Dame had a season-high 471 yards in a victory over Navy. With Quinn leading the way, the Irish (7-1) scored on their first five possessions to take a 31-14 lead. The Irish were then stuffed at the Navy 1 before Quinn completed his marvelous performance with his third touchdown pass. Six scores in seven possessions is impressive work, but Quinn lamented Notre Dame's lone unproductive drive. "One of the things our offense wanted to work on this week was being more consistent throughout the entire game," he said. "I think you saw that with the exception of that one drive when we didn't get it in at the goal line." What could possibly be better than scoring 31 points on the opening five drives? "Six out of six and making them all touchdowns," Quinn said.... | |

The country's biggest chemical company earned $512 million, or 53 cents a share, down from $801 million or 82 cents in the year-earlier period. Excluding a 45-cent charge to shut down a number of assets, Dow Chemical (DOW) earned 98 cents. Revenue climbed 10% to $12.36 billion. Analysts polled by Thomson First Call were expecting 92 cents in profit on $ 11.99 billion in revenue, on average. Pricing rose 11% in the quarter, with the strongest rise in basic chemicals. The pricing more than offset the impact of the 17th straight quarter of higher feedstock and energy costs, Dow said.... | |
